Music For Youth Festival
P3 and P4 girls are working hard to prepare for this years Music for Youth festival. On the 15th March, we will be singing at the Bannerdale Centre in Sheffield to take part in the world’s largest youth music festival.. Over 50,000 musicians and singers will participate nationally. The regional festival provides a unique opportunity for us to perform to a new audience, listen to other groups from our area and get valuable feedback from the team of MFY Music Mentors.
We can’t wait to be a part of it!

Phoebe Plays ‘Last Post’
Cornet playing Phoebe takes the ‘Last Post’ at Ashdell’s Special Remembrance Assembly
Not only was it a morning to remember those who had died in the great wars but it was also a day for one young girl at Ashdell School, Broomhill to remember for her own efforts. Phoebe became the first ever girl at Ashdell to play the ‘Last Post’ on her Cornet, a piece that is traditionally played by an older Birkdale Prep Boy. The school welcomed, in full military uniform, Major Frank Kirkham, a former Major with the Territorial Army, to lead the special remembrance assembly. Major Kirkham, now a school master at Birkdale Preparatory School, who explained to the girls why it was important to mark this very special day, the importance of wearing a poppy and why we should never forget those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Phoebe’s mum said ‘ she has been practicing it for weeks and weeks, it’s a very tricky piece to play as it was written for the bugle rather than a cornet, but she did a great job and we are very proud of her, especially knowing she is the first girl ever to play it in a remembrance service at the school.’
A Busy Choir!
Choir are having a busy term. We will be singing in Meadowhall to raise money for the charity, Lost Chord. We will also be singing at Whirlow Farm Christmas Fayre. Keep Singing!
