P3 and P4 girls are working hard to prepare for this years Music for Youth festival. On the 15th March, we will be singing at the Bannerdale Centre in Sheffield to take part in the world’s largest youth music festival.. Over 50,000 musicians and singers will participate nationally. The regional festival provides a unique opportunity for us to perform to a new audience, listen to other groups from our area and get valuable feedback from the team of MFY Music Mentors.
We can’t wait to be a part of it!
The prep girls worked very hard during the spring term to pull together a wonderful and funny performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in front of a very appreciative audience. Well done girls and a huge thank you to all those who acted, helped and supported!
Well done to all the 33 prep girls who took part in the Birkdale Festival last week! You all played, recited poetry and sang beautifully. On Sunday, P3/4 choir took part in this year’s Homestart Children’s Charity Concert. Thank you for all your wonderful singing!
Young Voices at the Arena
Well done to all P3 and P4 girls- they danced and sang with great energy at Young Voices this year!
On Christmas Night
What a lovely Nativity this year. There were dozy sheep, helpful innkeepers, the stars and angels and joke telling shepherds (to name but a few!) The singing was lovely. Well done girls.
Charity Carol Singing Weekend!
Thank you to all the girls and their families who attended Meadowhall and Whirlow Farm Fayre this weekend. At Meadowhall we helped to raise over £1000 for the Lost Chord charity. Whirlow was as cold and muddy as ever. Your singing was as fantastic as ever! Thank you!
Cornet playing Phoebe takes the ‘Last Post’ at Ashdell’s Special Remembrance Assembly
Not only was it a morning to remember those who had died in the great wars but it was also a day for one young girl at Ashdell School, Broomhill to remember for her own efforts. Phoebe became the first ever girl at Ashdell to play the ‘Last Post’ on her Cornet, a piece that is traditionally played by an older Birkdale Prep Boy. The school welcomed, in full military uniform, Major Frank Kirkham, a former Major with the Territorial Army, to lead the special remembrance assembly. Major Kirkham, now a school master at Birkdale Preparatory School, who explained to the girls why it was important to mark this very special day, the importance of wearing a poppy and why we should never forget those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Phoebe’s mum said ‘ she has been practicing it for weeks and weeks, it’s a very tricky piece to play as it was written for the bugle rather than a cornet, but she did a great job and we are very proud of her, especially knowing she is the first girl ever to play it in a remembrance service at the school.’
Choir are having a busy term. We will be singing in Meadowhall to raise money for the charity, Lost Chord. We will also be singing at Whirlow Farm Christmas Fayre. Finally, on Tuesday 6th December will will be taking part in Young Voices 2011! Guest stars include Connie Talbot and The High Kings. We are working hard to learn all the words and moves. Keep Singing!
