Olivia Meets the Mayor

Olivia in Prep 4 received her plaque as runner-up in the mixed media category (KS1/KS2) in the Sheffield Young Artist’s Competition 2013 – her work was selected out of hundreds of entries submitted by pupils across Sheffield. Olivia was presented with her plaque by the Lord Mayor at a Ceremony held at Pond’s Forge on Friday 3rd May. Twenty-nine pupils from Ashdell also had their work selected for display in the Sheffield Young Artist’s Exhibition.

Pupil Success at Daley Pool

Our 3 diving girls went to the Novice Skills Final held at Tom Daley’s home pool in Plymouth. It was tough qualifying for the event and the girls stepped up to the mark and performed very well to have the results below:

Lily came 14th in her age group

Lydia 16th in hers yesterday

Lucy dived brilliantly and came 9th in her age group.

A fantastic experience for all of them. Well done girls, we are, as always, very proud of you!

More Diving Success

Lily and Lydia who are on the TID Diving Squads headed off to Sunderland at the start of the Easter holiday’s to compete in the North East Regional Skills Qualification Competition

Both girls were very excited about competing there especially after their recent success in Shipley.

It was a tough competition for both girls but they produced some great results, Lily finished 4^th and Lydia finished 11^th in her group (she is competing in a year above.)

Their great results mean that they have qualified for the National Skills Final in Plymouth in May, good luck girls!!!!!

Swimming Gala Results

On Thursday 14^th March all the Prep girls went down to Heeley Swimming Pool to take part in our Annual Swimming Gala.

As always the atmosphere was fantastic and the amount of encouragement that all our swimmers received was great.

There were some close calls in certain events and at times our officials couldn’t decide the winners so two girls shared the honour.

Congratulations to Grace (P1 Class Race) Ella (P2 Class Race) and Katie (Breaststroke Championship Race) who all broke existing swimming records for Ashdell and now hold the current record!

Girls score points for their house for their result in an event and at the end of the evening a house is declared a winner, this year that honour went to Rivelin.

Congratulations to all the girls for all your hard work on the evening, I’m sure you will agree that it was a great event.

National Inter-school Quiz

The National KS2 General Knowledge Inter-School Quiz Championship 2012-2013

On Tuesday 19^th March Ashdell hosted a fantastic General Knowledge Quiz. We had two Ashdell teams consisting of one girl from P1-P4, these were:

Team 1 -Elise (P1) Eleanora (P2) Prudence (P3) Liberty (P4)

Team 2- Beatrix (P1) Alex (P2) Tashinga (P3) Ellie (P4)

We were joined by 2 teams from each of the following schools: Birkdale Prep School, Sheffield High School, Mylnhurst Prep School and Westbourne Prep School.

All of the children enjoyed participating in the quiz and the feedback from Ashdell girls afterwards was very positive:

“I liked it how Simon the Quiz man explained all of the answers. I have learned a lot of new facts!” Ellie P4

“I enjoyed working with my team to answer the questions. It was fun!” Liberty P4

All of the children tried very hard to answer some challenging questions that even tested the teachers!!!

Birkdale Prep School were the overall winners so we will look out for them in the next heat and wish them good luck!
