FOA Recent Events

Ashdell Disco – Saturday 14th January 2017 – 5pm to 7pm – Showroom Cinema

The FOA disco was held at the Showroom and lots of girls came and had a lovely time.  Disco Dave was on hand for the final time and it was a memorable event.  All the girls enjoyed it.

Ashdell Quiz Night – Friday 14th October 2016 – Balfour Hall Ashdell

The Ashdell Quiz was a memorable evening.  With a new quiz master (many thanks Spencer and Helen!), and a fantastic selection of questions – you know the type, where the answer is just on the tip of your tongue.  Five teams took part but there could be only one winner.

Ashdell Pool Party – Sunday 18th September 2016

The weather held out for Ashdell’s first pool party and the pool was full of children having a great time.

Ashdell Under the Stars – Saturday 25th June 2016

Lots of different weather happened during the camp!  The day started out sunny in the afternoon and changed to wet and windy in the evening.  It didn’t dampen the spirits of the girls!  Lots of games – swing-ball, archery, badminton, rounders and a tent full of sweets made it a memorable day.

FOA Disco – 9th January 2016

The disco was great fun for the girls, especially those Prep 4 girls who had just done their High School entrance exams.

Ashdell Christmas Fayre – 28th November 2015

This year’s fayre was bigger and better than ever.  There were lots of stalls (Rice, Lush,  and Prove), and things to do.   The girls, as ever, enjoyed the face painting and nail stalls.  Claire Pearson took some great photos of the children. The raffle also did fantastically well.  The fayre has raised over £2500.00.
Many thanks to all those that helped organise and run the fayre on the day.

Quiz Night – Friday 16th October – Balfour Hall, Ashdell School – 7:30pm

Everyone had a very enjoyable evening testing their brain power against the Ashdell Quiz. With rounds on Romans, Highway code signs, backwards songs, and match the quote to the author, amongst others, teams tried their best to answer the questions correctly. Teams bought their own food and nibles, wine and desserts and a prize was awarded to the best dressed table (won by ‘Narnia’). Small prizes were awarded to the table with the highest score each round as well.

The teachers (Tour de Quiz), who won last year, were unable to hold on to the Ashdell Trophy, which was claimed this year by ‘Shaken Not Stirred’ – Pre Prep 3 Parents:

Many thanks to Glyn and Barbara Wilson for putting on a devilishly hard quiz.

The quiz raised over £100.00 for the FOA so thank you for all those taking part.

Fun Day at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club – Saturday 17th October, Hillsborough Stadium.

Flower Arranging – Tuesday 5th May

Chris Bidulph from Blooms Florist in Sheffield came to show how to create a beautiful flower arrangement.  After an enjoyable couple of hours the displays were done, and as can be seen in the photo below, they looked fantastic.

Christmas Fayre – 29th November 2014

The Fayre was very popular and raised a great deal of money for the school.  All the stalls did well, with the nails and face painting stalls particularly big hits with the girls, and the bacon sandwiches went down well with all the parents!  The arrival of Santa meant there was a big queue within seconds outside Santa’s Grotto – many thanks to Mrs Camm who let Santa borrow her room.  Also many thanks to all those that helped organise and run the fayre on the day.

Quiz Night – Balfour Hall, 17th October 2014

Last Friday, the atmosphere in Balfour Hall was tense.  FOA had come together for their annual Quiz Night and nobody wanted to go home with the ‘Wooden Spoon’.

Last year, the teachers team walked away shamed with the dreaded booby prize. This year, they were determined to win.

Glynn Wilson hosted the event as Quiz Master and certainly put the teams to the test.  Five teams; D-Force, The Teachers, Nibbles, Call the Midwife and The Pumpkins battled it out to win the coveted ‘Ashdell Ashes Trophy’.

After 8 rounds of gruelling questions (and quite a few drinks too!), many teams started to wane and couldn’t quite muster the brain power needed to succeed.  The Teachers however, kept their goal in sight and sailed to victory with great joy (and relief…).

As ever, it was a fun night out with the FOA!

Dads and Daughter’s Camp – 21st June 2014

This year’s Camp  was held in a campsite near Edale.  The views of the Hope Valley were first rate and the weather was great.  Around 60 Dads and Daughters attended with a variety of tents being pitched – the most impressive being the tipi, and a large tent that the girls decided would be ideal for telling ghost stories in later.

A game of rounders was arranged and somehow ended up being Dads vs. Daughters.  Apparently the rules have changed quite a bit since any of the Dads had played and so were immediately at a disadvantage, with lots of Dads having to run back to pick up the bat instead of dropping it after hitting the rounders ball.  Needless to say that the girls won.  Perhaps next year will be different…

Friends of Ashdell Ball – 7th June

The Ball was great fun.  We were sharing the evening with parents from Birkdale School and it was hosted at Baldwin’s Omega.  There wasn’t a band this year which meant more money has been raised for the school.  The evening started off with a welcome drink and then a four course meal and disco to finish.  The raffle and auction were very popular and raised a lot of money.

Wine Tasting Evening – 28th March, Balfour Hall

There were over 40 parents and teachers in attendance.  Everyone had a great time tasting some fantastic wines.  The host was Barry Starmore of StarmoreBoss and he chose a wonderful selection of wines.  There was a selection of nibbles and cheeses to accompany the wine.

Starting off was a Mas Macia Cava Brut Reserva, followed by three great Whites – Terras d’Alter Viognier Alentejo Portugal; Picpoul de Pinet Chateau de Roubes Organic; The Collectables NZ Sauvignon Blanc Organic.  After a little more cheese and biscuits the reds were opened – El Campesino Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenere; Pasion de Bobal; De Bortoli Vat Series Durif.  To finish was a nice little desert wine – Nivole from d’Asti NW Italy.
