SHS U11 Netball Tournament
The P4 girls all arrived bright and early at Sheffield High School for the annual netball tournament on Saturday 17th March. All the teams were split into 2 pools for the earlier rounds.
The P4 girls showed just how far they have come in recent years and managed to win all their games (7-0, 3-1, 4-0, 5-1 and 6-2) except the last one against Mylnhurst to finish second in their pool. They proceeded to the semi-finals and played Sheffield High School which they lost 2-6. They then played their last match against Westbourne for the 3rd/4th playoffs and sadly they lost it 3-1.
The girls were absolutely amazing and played some of their best netball, I think that the parents nerves were put to the test throughout the tournament and would like to thank them for all their support.
It was a great end to their netball season and I’m really proud of every single girl for all their hard work!!!
Pop Maths Quiz News
On Saturday, 10 March, seven Prep 4 and three Prep 3 girls took part in the annual Pop Maths Quiz, hosted by Sheffield Hallam University. They were divided into two teams of 5 and had to work collaboratively to solve 20 challenging problem solving questions. They were allowed to use calculators, but this did not always help!
Questions the girls faced included:
The sum of 3 prime numbers is 27 and their product is 429. What are the prime numbers?
A group of children are standing equally spaced in a circle. The 7th child is standing directly opposite the 20th child. How many children are in the circle?
In a football tournament each team plays the other team once. There are 15 games in total. How many teams are there in the tournament?
There were between 50 and 60 teams from across the region taking part in the Year 6 category.
Both teams did very well and congratulations to all the girls for their hard work.

U11 QM’s Netball Tournament
Under 11′s Queen Margaret’s Netball Tournament
All P4 girls and 5 P3 girls left Ashdell bright and early on Friday 9th March to travel up to Queen Margaret’s School in York for their
annual Netball Tournament. We had 2 teams competing and for the P3 girls it was an incredible experience for them.
Both teams worked extremely hard in between their hot chocolate fixes, everyone learnt what you had to do to play within a team. The Blue team didn’t manage a win but everyone really tried their hardest and some girls who had very limited experience of playing in matches showed a great understanding of what they had to do, they finished 6th in their group.
The Red Team had a great tournament, they won 2 matches and showed me what team work was all about, it was some of the best netball I have seen them play ever and girls who at times lack confidence really shone during the day. They finshed 3rd in their group and puts them in good form for the U11 SHS Tournament on Saturday 17th March.
Well done to everyone and thank you to Fran.
Climate Change Week
Our Science week all about climate change kicked of f this morning with a climate challenge presentation, followed by classroom work.
The pupils then presented their ideas to the school and have come up with some very unique and inventive ways of helping our society become greener.
Their work included:
PP1 – designing gardens, PP2 – making our school patio more environmentally friendly, PP3 – considering what being green means (and designing super shiny clean classrooms, terrific toilet flushes, a funky green kids park where recyled rubbish = time to play and a crazy cleaning coin to recycle and clean bathwater!), P1 – designing new style litterbins (sensing, talking and recycling), P2 – designing their own Eco-robots to clean Endcliffe Park, P3 – an Eco Heathrow (where they managed to run everything on electricity and get ticket prices down to £7 per flight!) and an Eco Park Centre – an environmentally friendly museum and P4 – an eco-office policy, suitable for adaptation by any school or office where every time paper was purchase, a tree was bought and planted and chairs are made from recycled car tyres.
Other exciting activities this week will include the Giant Hornets of Japan, Astrosphere Stardome, a Science Quiz and the K’Nex Challenge.
A great netball win for P4
Ashdell take on Sheffield High School
All of P3 and P4 girls went down to Sheffield High School for a friendly match. Sheffield High School played two year 6 teams and we had one P4, one P3 and a mixed P3/P4 team.
The girls played really well and it is lovely to see the P3 girls grow in confidence on the back of the U10 Sheffield High School.
Unfortunately the P3 and P3/P4 teams both lost but the P4 team managed a 5-0 win, this should give them confidence going to Queen Margarets on Friday 9th March and the U11 Sheffield High School Tournament on the 17th March.
Ommpa Loompas At Work!
Ommpa Loompas At Work!
P4 girls and parents have been working hard today creating some of our props for our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We now have a sparkling chocolate river and a pink boat. Amazing! We decided we were Willie Wonka’s Ommpa Loompas!
Birkdale Festival and Homestart
Well done to all the 33 prep girls who took part in the Birkdale Festival last week! You all played, recited poetry and sang beautifully. On Sunday, P3/4 choir took part in this year’s Homestart Children’s Charity Concert. Thank you for all your wonderful singing!
Netball News
IAPS U11 Netball Tournament – Worksop College
All the P4 girls were involved in the IAPS U11 Netball Tournament on Thursday 1st March. Even though a netball team consists of 7 players we took all 11 girls to the tournament and every single one of them played an important part of the competition. Despite the fact that we didn’t win many of matches the girls developed their own skills and tactics and progressed in leaps and bounds to finish the tournament with a win in our last match.
Well done to everyone involved!
Sheffield High School U10 Netball Tournament
On Saturday 3rd March 7 P3 and 2 P2 girls competed in SHS U10 Netball Tournament. It was a round robin format so the girls had to work hard and perform consistently well over 8 matches.
Overall we finished joint 5th in the Tournament which was fantastic, the girl’s team work and support of each other was great and every single girl improved massively during the morning, from superb defending, great shooting and quick mid court play, Ashdell put their mark on the tournament.
I think that the Ashdell supporters nerves were really tested in many of the matches and thank you to everyone for your support, it was a great atmosphere.
Well done to everyone involved I know that we can continue to improve further.
World Book Day Success
The theme of World Book Day this year was ‘Pick a book. Read a book. Share a story.’
Ashdell girls did just that by bringing in their favourite books to read and share with a different class.
Prep girls visited the Pre-Prep girls and together they read and talked about stories. The atmosphere was lovely and both departments thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
On Monday 5th March Primary Books visited Ashdell with a wonderful book fair. The girls enjoyed choosing a new book, using their book token from World Book Day. The book fair raised £100 worth of books for both the Pre-Prep and Prep departments.
Thank you to all the girls and parents for supporting these events and making World Book Day a huge success!
