What is the Internet?

The Internet is a worldwide network of computers (that are linked together), in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get access to information made available on other computers. These computers are linked through hundreds of thousands of wires, cables and satellite links.

What is the World Wide Web? (WWW)

The World Wide Web - often known as the 'web' is the visual side of the internet.  Through the WWW you can access all the computers that are linked on the world's network (or INTERNET). The WWW uses hyperlinks (text and images that link one page to another page) to guide you through lots of different pages and sites.

Basically, the World Wide Web is an application that runs on top of the internet, enabling you to view the documents stored on lots of different networked computers.

What is a Browser?

A browser is software that lets you view web pages.  The most common browsers that you willl probably come across are Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. Internet providers like AOL sometimes use their own browsers, though these are often based on the more common browsers.
