Music

Music plays a huge part in the life of Ashdell. Throughout the year, girls experience a rich assortment of listening, composing and performing opportunities. Classroom music provides a hands-on, practical experience for the girls, in which they engage actively in there learning.

We are always seeking ways to improve the facilities we have and have now completed a programme to update the keyboards and keyboard system in the music room.

Currently, 70% of our Prep pupils have instrumental lessons within school, with 24% of those girls learning more than one instrument. 52% of PP2/3 girls have piano lessons. We are able to offer a wide variety of instrumental lessons and music clubs. Orchestra and choir form part of the musical experience prep girls.

Each year a varied and high standard of music-making takes place, with regular opportunities to perform individually and as part of a group.  Singing is a large part of musical life at Ashdell. We sing in the community at Christmas, during performances in school and we sing to support a selection of local and regional charities. The choir go from strength to strength, the highlight of our year is to take part in the Music for Youth Festival. Ashdell girls just love to perform and what good performers they are too!
